Behind the Videos
One of the best services we (www.authorschannel.com) provide is the producing and distribution of Author Videos. Although just about everybody has a favorite book or a favorite author, how many people have actually MET the person who created the masterpiece? This year I've had the good fortune to meet dozens of authors who write in dozens of genres and live around the world. And I've come to one clear conclusion... (Oprah would say, "This is know for sure...") Authors are fascinating people. While they are each truly unique, they definitely have one thing in common. They each have a point of view and an ability to express it. For someone who loves a good conversation about as much as she loves good _______ (fill in the blank with anything you want), there's nothing more yummy than a great conversation with a great communicator. What fun!
So while you can click through our site and watch the authors express themselves on video, in this blog I will tell you the story behind the video -- from the point of view of the person behind the camera. If there's one thing all of these authors have shown me, it's the value of a unique point of view!
Here's the first story... one of many true highlights of 2007...
In July I attended the Harlem Book Festival in NYC. Apparently, there are book festivals in every state filled with authors and books, and the people who love them. Who knew? This particular book festival was well-attended, with authors' booths set up in the streets of Harlem spanning several city blocks. I had no particular agenda except to interview as many authors as I thought the viewers of The Authors Channel would find interesting. As I meandered down the rows of booths manned by authors and their friends and family members, the first booth that caught my attention was a table at the very end of the street which was being manned by someone who looked familiar. I looked at him. I looked at the sign posted on the front of his table. I looked at him. I looked at his sign. And then the lightbulb went on... I was standing in front of "Gordon" from Sesame Street! Miraculously he was not mobbed with fans, so I quickly snagged him for an interview. As I was chatting with Roscoe Orman on the streets of New York about the longest running show in television history, I consciously relished the moment. It was the perfect setting on a perfect day and while I had no idea what would come from my adventure that day, I stumbled about the "perfect" interview. And every time I watch Roscoe's video, I relive the moment -- and it was a really cool moment indeed.
Here's my favorite video from that conversation with Roscoe Orman, which happened "by accident" on that really great July day in Harlem, NY.
You can see more of Roscoe at www.rickyandmob0.vidshadow.com And just so you know, Roscoe is the genuine article. He's just the kind of neighbor that you'd want living down the street whether you're a big yellow bird or not!
